Losing the Mountains

In a second personal essay, I once again examine my families place in America, but this time through the lens of our current identity as Apalachians. In this essay, I am examining my own relationship to Standarized American English and exploring how it affects everyone who is subjected to it. In this piece crticial of the very academic langauge I adopted throughout college, I explore the connection between classism and a system of langauge based on white supremacy.
